Communicated case: M.G. v. Greece (application no. 37062/14)

Date:
Wednesday, March 21, 2018

On 21 March 2018, the ECtHR communicated case M.G. v. Greece (application no. 37062/14), which concerned the detention of a Sudanese applicant, a victim of torture in his country of origin and suffering from drug addiction, at the police stations of Kypseli and Galatsi from January to November 2013. In November 2013, the applicant was granted refugee status. He complains before the ECtHR that his detention in the police stations constituted inhuman and degrading treatment in violation of Article 3 ECHR, particularly due to his health status. He also complains under Article 5 ECHR that his detention could not be considered lawful and that there was a lack of effective remedy to challenge the lawfulness of his detention.
