European Parliament: EUROSUR Regulation approved

Date:
Monday, October 21, 2013

The European Parliament has approved the European Border Surveillance System (EUROSUR) Regulation during the Plenary Session and it is now ready for adoption by the Council.

The underlying principle of the new regulation is 'sharing information and improving the cooperation between Member States and between the agencies involved'. These are considered to be 'essential steps in view of a better burden-sharing in the management of the EU external borders'. The system should 'help Member States to achieve full awareness of the situation at their external borders and enhance information flow and cooperation between Member States as well as between Member States and the Agency, in a more consistent and systematic way'.
